1/31/11 Level 1: Preconventional Level Stage 1: Punishment avoidance: avoiding punishment by not breaking rules. The person has little awareness of others’ needs. Children and Adults may exhibit this type of reasoning. One has not yet (or refuses to) adapted to society’s norms and is focused on direct consequence of certain behaviors.
