Chapter One  Matter, Measurements and Problem Solving 18:06 Atoms are submicroscopic particles the fundamental building blocks of matter Matter is anything that occupies space and has mass Molecules are defined as two or more atoms connected in a specific geometric  arrangement connections are called bonds bonds come in different lengths and different strengths heterogeneous mixture – can be divided by physical means homogeneous mixture – i.e tea pure substances – element or compound structure determines properties – the properties of matter are determined by the  atoms and molecules that compose it theory - a general explanation for the manifestation and behavior of all nature
