Wesley Murphy Political Science 325 10/27/09 Dr. Shanruo Ning Zhang Human Nature When we think of human nature, naturally the first definition that comes to mind is the basic traits we possess that are universal no matter what society we live in. However, I have a constructionist view of human nature because I do not believe the traits we possess are hard wired into us, our nature is changeable. When we are born our minds are blank slates ready to absorb information and be influenced by society. If I were a policy maker, my constructionist beliefs and assumptions on human nature would inspire me to design laws and policies that work to influence society by shaping their belief system. Since we are moving into the post-modern era, human nature is centered on economic growth, education, and efficiency. To solve problems that we face today such as waste, pollution, and over-usage of energy, it is important to harness these modern values and mold them to work towards the advancement of our society
