BS 110 Notes 9-13-2010 Nucleotide – base, sugar, phosphate Deoxynucleoside triphosphate – base, sugar, 3 phosphates mRNA, tRNA, rRNA – single strands of nucleotides Triplet, codon, and anticodon composed of 3 bases (3 nucleotides) Cell Division Generally, this is a process where 1 cell divides into 2 or more cells. Two Types: o Mitosis – series of orderly events in which the nucleus divides into two nuclei that have the same type and amount of genetic information as each other and as the parent cell Stages: interphase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase DNA Replicated, 1 series of division Diploid (2N) = Parent Cell >>> Diploid (2N) = Daughter Cell Equal cytokinesis Reproduction Somatic Cells – body cells Growth, replacing dead cells, would healing, regeneration Go unchecked – cells produced that are not related to “needs” find o Meiosis – series of orderly events in which the nucleus undergoes 2 divisions
