The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time Essay Autism or Autism Spectrum Disorder is a type of development disability that affects millions of people worldwide. It affects every person differently but commonly creates limitations and difficulties in their understanding of life. In the book “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” by Mark Haddon, Christopher John Francis Boone is a 15 year old boy growing up with autism, who has a very logical way of thinking that gives the book a unique perspective but limits his ability to understand the world around him. Christopher’s condition limits his understanding of life because of his inability to understand the emotions of, other people as well as himself and his lack of trust in people. Christopher has a very hard time comprehending other people’s emotions. He can only tell if people are happy, when they smile or laugh, sad when they cry and angry when they yell but, only because he is observant and has associated those actions with the emotion. When talking to his father about finding the person who killed Wellington, his father got angry and Christopher realized this only after, his father started yelling.“I could tell that he was angry because he was shouting” (Haddon 21).
