Leadership Matrix Trait leadership Trait leadership is defined and contemplated to be a theory that explores the characteristics that a person ought to possess for them to be termed as great leaders. In the 19 th century, it was believed that leadership was an innate personality that was rare to find and unique to some individuals. It was thought to be hereditary and expected that the qualities would be passed on to future generations in a person's lineage. It was believed that the leadership traits would naturally flow through a family lineage as it was hereditary. According to the trait theory, leaders were naturally gifted with unique personality traits qualities under their birth. Such features enabled the born leaders to lead other people, meaning that the notion that leaders were made was not a portion of the trait leadership theory. From research, minimal assertions have been made to certify that leaders are born and that they can be marked by the personal traits that they possess. For one to become a leader, some features must accompany them. For example, there is proof that one ought to possess characters such as being friendly, lively, as well as more aggressive than other individuals in a group. In other words, a leader ought to possess certain traits that allow them to handle the matter at hand. Example The best trait leadership example is biblical. Moses of the bible was born a leader. He had leadership traits such as eloquence in speech, self-confidence, responsibility, intelligence, and sociability. Moses is considered one of the most brilliant and knowledgeable leaders of his time because he demonstrated innate leadership traits and was able to lead his people. Behavioral leadership Behavioral leadership theory states that a leader can be identified depending on what they do. According to the theory, leadership traits are observable, and a leader could be identified based on what they do. The theory holds that leadership qualities are divided into democratic, autocratic, and laissez- faire. The concept was developed in the mid-1940s to early 1970s and mainly during the World War II.
