Values Orientations Method 1. Developed by anthropologists in 40s and 50s 1. Eurocentric view of cultural differences - Method for determining values orientation in cultures and classifying them -Values orientation-the principle of right and wrong among a specific culture Reasons - improve understanding of confusing cultural differences - reduce judgement and demonization of people from other cultures Concepts -Cultural values may have been developed as a filter to restrict information contrary contrary to collective cultural concepts -Cultural Values established norms which the group would follow in order to su as a whole -People see their cultural values as normal-others as abnormal Ways of passing on values -Parenting -Music -Books -Idioms/fables -Social/Family groups -Religion -Media -Movies -TV -Music 5 core values of all cultures w/ responses to each 1. Human nature -People are inherent bad -There are good and bad people. Bad people can change -People are born good
