Jordan Townsend Global 120: Juergensmeyer Section: Wed @7pm - Villanueva Reading Notes #4 1. “Utopians” – Thomas The main topic of this reading is the authors analyzation of the results of the Cuban Revolution, which he claims brought about many forms of positive change for the country as a whole, however the “Utopia’ which had been promised has yet materialize. This article relates to a previous class discussion, because the global communist movement was backed by the USSR during the post-Cold War era through different proxy wars supporting communist social revolutions around the world against the US such as Vietnam and Korea, however the none of these countries supported by the USSR have ever achieved this utopian mindset. 2. “Afterword” – Thomas The main focus of this article is on the large role in which Fidel Castro have played in the shaping of Cuba and although in recent years it has lost global power and witnessed economic failure, the power in which the small island 40 miles off the coast of the United
