Muscles (239) Structure of Skeletal Muscle 3 Tissue Types: Skeletal/Striated - voluntary; controlled by the Somatic Nervous System Cardiac & Smooth - involuntary; controlled by Autonomic Nervous System o mysium (muscle) epimysium (epithelium) - surrounding the outside of the muscle perimysium - surrounding each fascicle endomysium - surrounding each muscle fiber (cell) -- nerve cell (neuron) Muscle - striated; long, cylindrical cell; multinucleated (241) How a Muscle Fiber is Made 1. Myoblast (muscle making cells) - derived from mesoderm (gives rise to skeletal muscle) o Fuse together; 3 fuse together; nuclei become one cell (long, cylindrical, multinucleated cell) 2. Myofibrils - within every fiber o Actin - thin filament o Myosin - thick filament The myofilaments are made of protein 3. Sarcoplasmic reticulum (sarco - flesh) - set of flat membranes that form a network 4. Sarcolemma (membrane) 5. Sarcoplasm 6. T tubules - store calcium
