Endocrine System o 'secretion within' o made of glands that are ductless. o release their secretion (hormones) into the bloodstream -- endocrine glands always have a lot of blood supply. o hormones (to excite) o Endocrine has slow effect on excitement ; Nervous system is immediate excitement. o but some glands in endocrine are part of nervous system o part of both endocrine and nervous system -- hypothalamus, pituitary, pineal glands o blood is connective tissue -- it connects all 11 systems Hypothalamus o production of ADH (antidiurhetic hormone) o oxytocin o regulatory hormones Pituitary glands o release of ADH and Oxytocin -- not made in the pituitary, they are released Pineal gland o melatonin o circadian rhythm (sleep and wake cycle) Thyroid gland o Metabolism - 2 types (build or break down something) 1. catabolism - break down big molecules into smaller molecules
