The purpose of Executive Order 12898 is to direct federal agencies with a public health or environmental mission to make environmental justice a part of their policies and activities. It promotes nondiscrimination in federal programs involving human health and the environment, and ensures that minority and low-income communities are given the opportunity to participate in environmental decision makings. 2.
