Morphology/Body Plan Metabolism and Physiology Cellular Structure Typical plant body consists of two major sections the shoot and the roots . The shoot system consists of Central stem with Lateral buds or branches ending in leaves. Where a branch/bud meets the stem is a node. The stem between nodes is referred to as internode. The bud at the end of the stem is the apical bud.

The root system consists of A long central taproot, with Lateral roots branching off to the sides. Differences in Body Plan between Plants and Animals Motility – has very obvious implications for the plant o Acquiring Food o Removing Waste o Predation o Unfavorable Environments Animals are constructed like machines, in the sense that they are made up of moving parts and such, whereas plants have a lattice-like structure that lacks the dynamism that animals exhibit. Plant Video 1: Shows plant with its pot at a perpendicular angle, and a light source oriented below it. With the speed of the video at 1300 x normal, you can see a rhythmic movement made by the plant in attempting to optimize light and temperature conditions.

Plant Video 2: Shows ( Mimosa ) rapid leaf movements resulting from touch and probe. The leafs along the primary leaf curl up as though to protect one another. This cascades along the leaf from the point of contact to the leaf node. At the node, their is a continuation of the signal to the other leafs on the node.
