Midterm Examination Monday February 10th, 2003 INSTRUCTIONS 1. Take alternate seating if possible. This is an open-book examination: books, notes and other such material may be used. 2. A pocket calculator may be used. A laptop computer may not be used. 3. Answer all questions in the spaces provided on these sheets. If needed, additional paper will be available at the front of the room. Answers given on any other paper will not be counted. 4. You don’t need to provide numerical answers to the problems. It suf- Fces if you provide, (i) an explicit expression (involving known parame- ters/quantities) which can be evaluated to get the desired result, or (ii) a system of linear equations which is known to have the desired result as its unique solution. 5.
