Brittany Haynes Sec. 5 I.D. 99 KIN 3502: Tests and Measurement in Kinesiology Physical Activity Objectives: 1) To obtain experience in several methods of measuring physical activity 1. Lab Activity: Everyone will wear a pedometer for the following activities in lab, and complete the following information to turn in with the written assignment: Task one: Set the pedometer to zero, and place on your waistband, as instructed. Walk 100 steps (by your count) and check the reading. Record the number of steps. Task two: Reset the pedometer to zero. Walk a distance/path as directed by your lab instructor. Record the number of steps registered. Task three: Reset the pedometer to zero. Jog the same distance/path designated by your lab instructor, counting your steps as you go. Record the actual number of steps (that you counted) and compare it to the number of steps registered on the pedometer, as well was to the number of steps that the pedometer registered when you walked the path. Walking steps taken= 100 Pedometer reading: 90 Walking two laps around the gym, Steps counted: 592 Pedometer reading: 550 Jogging two laps around the gym, Steps counted = 384 Pedometer reading: 390 Written Assignment: a) What conclusions can you draw concerning the accuracy of pedometers, based on these activities?
