2 Government Expansion for National Security Introduction Since the creation of the United States of America it has been among the most powerful nations in the world. The United States presently has the most updated, technology advanced and powerful militaries on the planet. Since the recent events in the past decade and the increase of terrorist activity around the world the United States has came to realize even though powerful as the United States maybe improvement is needed to be made in this nations security. The terrorist attack of September, 11 th in New York more or less opened the nation’s eyes to problems in the present security measures being used and the need for the United States to have better security measures in place to avoid any future terrorist tragedies. Government Expansion for National Security The United States now is a nation living in fear caused by the terrorist attacks on September 11 th which exposed the United States national security instability and presented the dilemma of how to fix the problems in the United States intelligence operations. The U.S. security dilemma several important questions such as; should intelligence operations be expanded? What is the intelligence dilemma facing United States law enforcement? What are the concerns about interagency cooperation related to the expansion of intelligence operations? Should executive powers be increased? What Constitutional arguments have been made against, and in support of, the expansion of executive powers? The need for the United States to maintain, recover, and increase national security is affected and also extends to multiple sections of our government. In this paper these questions, the intelligence dilemma U.S. law enforcement is facing, and the constitutional issues with our present security measures or powers (Thomson / Wadsworth. 2005).
