PSYCHOLOGICAL RESEARCH CONTINUED  Descriptive and Correlational studies: Looks at patterns of behavior across conditions Links variables which show consistent patterns or relationships  Descriptive Studies     Case studies: o In-depth study of individual or small group o Provides systematic observations o Limited generalizability  Can’t necessarily be expanded to the whole population John / Joan case study   never can one case provide a  hypothesis for the general public  o Susceptible to researcher bias  Believe something should be there, so you see it there  Naturalistic Observation: o Looks at behavior in a natural environment  Not manipulating the variables   reporting observations, but  only happens when the teacher is not watching o Reports observations o Can describe but not explain behavior How do you define what bullying behavior was?  Survey Method: o Large sample size possible 46,000 people in study – lots of variation, the more I have, the
