Crystal Hammond BSAD 1000 Video Handout Is Wal-Mart Good for America? Wal-Mart is the largest retailer in America. Wal-Mart will tell you that they provide jobs, pay a lot of taxes, and through their everyday low price policy increase the purchasing power of many Americans. Opponents of Wal-Mart will tell you that their push to lower prices leads to the loss of jobs in America and that they are, in fact, bad for the country, Ultimately, it is an individual decision as to who is right. This video is not an “I hate Wal-Mart” video. Both sides of the issue are pretty evenly presented. Please use the information provided in the video to answer the following questions. If you miss something during the video you can go to Public Broadcasting’s website and find lots of articles about the video. 1. Wal-Mart pioneered the bar code—what advantages of the bar code are mentioned in the video? Right mix of items in the store, track sales of specific items, weeks, tracks sales, spikes on items at certain times of the year, sizes colors and flavors or items, speeding up delivery, and items are automatically ordered and then on the Wal-Mart shelf’s within a couple days .
