Anna Birkstedt Dance 2 060109 Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor, Debbie Reynolds, Jean Hagen Stanely Donen, Gene Kelly Singing in the Rain 9 dance pieces Step, Jazz, Ballet Video Review – Singing in the Rain The story takes place in old glamorous Hollywood, at the beginning of sound-ear. A film company is transitioning into making movies with sounds, and lead characters Don Lockwood (Gene Kelly) and Lena Lamont (Jean Hagen) are having trouble adjusting to the new way of making movies. When the movie flops, Dons friend Cosmo (Donald O’Connor) comes up with the brilliant idea of making the movie into a musical, and together, Don, Cosmo and Kathy introduces the idea to the head of the studio R.F. Simpson (Millard Mitchell), who loves it. The problem is leading lady Lena Lamont has a terrible voice and cannot sing, so without her knowing, they record Kathy singing the songs to be dubbed over Lena. At the end of the production Lena finds out; she is furious and does everything to sabotage between Don and Kathy. The premiere of the musical is a complete success. When
