Journal 2 Today I got punished for getting into that fight and messin up my cloths.  That  was ok though ‘cause like always I got ‘round it.  But I mean its not my fault it  was a buttiful day and it was s’pose to be my only free day off and instead I had  to work on a huge fence.  “Thirty yards of boarded fence nine feet high” that’s how  much work I had to do but couldn’t do it all day I had to have some fun then Jim  came by and I had an Idea.  “Say, Jim: I’ll fetch the water if you’ll whitewash  some” I called. But he wasn’t a craken.  He was all scared he be gittin in trouble if  he didn’t hurry but I still had an ace up my sleve.  “And besides, if you will I’ll  show you my sore toe.”  I said to Tom.  He couldn’t resist.  I was ‘bout to gain my  freedom but then Aunt Polly came out and wacked him in the rear and that was

Then he started to get interested and asked me if I liked it. “Like it? Well, I don’t see why I oughtn’t to like it. Does a boy get a chance to whitewash a fence every day?” I had him then. He asked if he could do it and I told him no, I could only do it ‘cause I was special. Then he had to do it. I finally let him do it after he gave me his apple. Then when he tired out I got another to do it then another hour after hour. Finally it was done and I had learned a valuable lesson. “In order to make a man or a boy covet a thing, it is only necessary to make the thing difficult to attain.”...
