Chapter One: Notes/Study Guide Pharmacology - (1) the study of drugs: the science or study of drugs, especially of the ways in which they react biologically at receptor sites in the body. (2) Drug’s effects: the effects that a drug has when taken by somebody, especially as a medical treatment. Psychopharmacology - (1) the study of psychological effect of drugs: the scientific study of the effects of drugs on thought and behavior. Drug - (1) medicinal substance: a natural or artificial substance given to treat or prevent disease or to lessen pain. (2) illegal substance: an often illegal and sometimes addictive substance that causes changes in behavior and perception and is taken for the effects Drug abuse - (1) illegal or excessive drug use: deliberate use of an illegal drug or of too much of a prescribed drug. Route of administration - the manner in which the drug is ingested: oral, intravenous, inhaled, topical,… Psychological set - the mind set a person is in when they ingest a drug.
