Barna Maryah Barna English 102 J. Beattie February 12, 2009 Kenyan Culture Culture lies within every society on Earth. It is intertwined into daily lives and schedule of everyone, yet it is also different for everyone. Petals of Blood , written by Ngugi Wa Thiong’o, captures the culture differences within Ilmorog, Kenya within the mid-nineteenth century. The book focuses on a triple murder investigation, but reveals a new level of understanding of Kenyan culture. Ilmorog is full of a variety of people, ranging from natives to nearby travelers to travelers from a distance. Each person within this town has different personalities and behaviors because of their background culture. THESIS!!!!!! Religion plays a dominant role in culture, just as it does throughout this book. Munira Godfrey is the main character in Petals of Blood and is also the narrator.
