Alicia Ellis POS 301 Professor Lee We the People Essay Questions Analyze the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. Explain the significance of these founding documents and how they altered previously accepted concepts of government. The Declaration of Independence and the U.S Constitution are both significant in the creation and progression of how the United States came to be its own country. The Declaration of Independence was created to “legally justify armed resistance to the crown as something other than treason” (Barnett, 2019). It announced the beginning of our independence from foreign rule. Before the Declaration of Independence, there was no elected monarch as the head of government. Instead they answered to a Parliament, which did not allow them to elect who spoke on their behalf. The Declaration of Independence and the U.S Constitution changed this. The people now wanted an elected head of government who worked with and for the people.
