Kyle BryantApril 7th, 2020Dr. ParksArt 189The Practice of LookingWithin art there are different ways to analyze bodies of work. One of those ways are whatauthors distinguish as “seeing” or “looking”. On the contrary of having these both words similar they are quite different. Different in a way of depicting which word is used for analyzing on a different level involving impeccable detail. With the sense of “looking” you involve different aspects like detecting social, cultural, and historical meanings in images. (pg.31). On the other side “seeing” to authors is just merely glancing at it. By not giving any kind of thought or research behind an image you’re just analyzing the look of the image, not actually discovering the true meaning of the body of work that is being dealt with. All of this also incorporates what the art world calls “representation”, which refers to the language and image we create that gives meaning to the world around us (pg.12). Using representation to understand and describe the world around us no matter what language is involved.
