Running head: THE FOUR FUNCTIONS 2 Abstract There are four basic functions in management. These consist of controlling, leading, organization, and planning, these allow any organization to be able to run smoothly and achieve their goals. I would have to choose to do 100% outsourcing for my option of manufacturing my product because it has the lowest investment and a lot less manufacturing problems on your shoulders. I would also consider licensing my product because it is less risky and can provide me a nice supplemental income.

Running head: THE FOUR FUNCTIONS 3 The four Functions of Management and Basic Concepts There are four management concepts that allow any organization to be able to run smoothly and achieve their goals (Buzzle.com n.d.). First you need to plan; this is the foundation of management. A company needs to set goals, at my work the management sets a goal of caseloads they have budgeted for the month. So they set a course of action to reach this goal, one way is to go out to the Doctor’s offices and offer them incentive to bring their cases to our center. You need to set short term, intermediate and long term goals (Ebert & Griffin 2005). This is an unending course of action (Buzzle.com n.d.). Take external factors, like economic hardship, these are sometimes uncontrollable and could affect (in this case) the amount of patients wanting to take time off work to have surgery. Planning is where management analyzes inside and outside factors that may affect the company and their objective goals. You have to set your goals and how you are going to achieve them, from how much money and time you will need to invest to how many people you will need to employ (All about economics 2008). The second function is to get prepared and organized. Management must organize all its
