6 Theories on Intelligence The Flynn Effect: IQ tests have gone UP over time In study of IQ tests scores for different populations over the past 60 years,  Flynn discovered that IQ scores increased from one generation to the next  Countries have seen generational increases between 5 and 25 points (average  9.7 points) Largest gains appear to occur on tests that measure fluid intelligence (learned )  rather than crystallized intelligence
