MODULE 1 HARMONIC MOTION and ELASTICITY OBJECTIVES: 1. Understand Harmonic motion in springs and pendulums. 2. Define elasticity. 3. Explain the relationship of stress and strain. 4. Determine the relationships of Force and Length changes in Young’s and Shear Modulus. 5. Determine the relationship of Force and Volume in Bulk Modulus. MODULE 2 FLUIDS OBJECTIVES: 1. Define the term fluid, mass density and specific gravity 2. Explain what is meant by the term pressure and what conditions effect the pressure of a fluid. Define pressure and its SI unit, the pascal (Pa). 3. Understand and apply the relationship between pressure and depth within a fluid. 4. Understand Pascal’s principle. Apply Pascal’s principle to real-world problems. 5. Understand buoyant force, Archimedes’ principle, and the appropriate density to use in calculating buoyant force. Solve buoyant force problems. 6. Understand fluids in motion differentiating between steady and unsteady flow, compressible and incompressible fluids, and viscous and non-viscous flow. 7. Define mass flow rate.
