PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT DESCRIPTION 2 Performance Assessment Description & Rubric Goal: The students will apply the principles of multiplication. Grade Level: 3 rd grade. Objective : The intent of the following assessment is to measure students’ understanding of multiplication facts. Students will demonstrate how to multiply two digit numbers. Students demonstrate how to multiply numbers that are multiples of 10. Student will apply these abilities through a mathematical performance assessment. Students must show their understanding by showing their work using words, numbers, or pictures. Standards: NC- North Carolina Standard Course of Study  Subject :  Mathematics (k-5 updated 2008) Grade/Topic :  Grade 3 Competency Goal:  COMPETENCY GOAL 1: The learner will demonstrate an understanding of fractions  and whole number operations. Objective:  1.05 Develop fluency with multiplication facts for 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, 10’s, 0’s and strategies for 3’s,  4’s, 6’s, 7’s, 8’s, 9’s; and related division facts. Competency Goal:  COMPETENCY GOAL 5: The learner will explore functional relationships and use  variables. Objective:  5.03 Demonstrate an understanding of the commutative and identity properties for addition  and multiplication.
