Data Filtering Filtering is a quick and easy way to find and work with a subset of data in a range. A filtered range displays only the rows that meet the criteria (criteria: Conditions you specify to limit which records are included in the result set of a query or filter.) you specify for a column.

Data Filtering Unlike sorting, filtering does not rearrange a range. Filtering temporarily hides rows you do not want displayed. An example is extracting only the records from an address database where the Zip code is equal to 57754. Microsoft Excel provides two commands for filtering ranges: AutoFilter and Advanced Filter .

AutoFilter Excel includes an AutoFilter feature that makes finding groups of records conforming to criteria very easy. The group of records is then at your disposal for editing, copying, etc. Keep in mind that the records are still part of the original database, it's just that the rows of data that do not meet the given criteria are hidden.
