05/02/2008 09:20:00 Rocks Consolidated Aggregates of Minerals o Water-Ground / Oil-Ground / Coal History o Deeper = Older Major Rock Groupds Igneous – Fire Rocks o Source of Material: Melting of rocks in hot, deep crust and upper  mantle o Rock forming process: Crystalization o Random Arrangement o Interlocking but not lined up and not arranged o Quartz/Feldspar/Pyroxene/Olivine Metamorphic – Name implies they’ve undergone a change. o Pressure / Heat / Chemical Solutions o Definite Arrangement due to pressure o Interlocking but lined up and arranged Sedimentary – Made from liquids on surface moving around o Weathering o Transport o Deposition o Lithification Cement – Some sort of ‘cement’ holding these together o Instead of interlocking angular grains, they are spheres.
