Conception and Implantation Stages of Prenatal Development • Germinal Stage  from conception to implantation  Around 2 weeks. • Embryonic Stage  implantation to 8 weeks  Most critical time in development ▫ Major organs develop • Fetal Stage  8 weeks to birth  Further development of organs.  Rapid brain development. Germinal to Embryonic Stage • Amnion  Membrane that grows over the embryo.  fills with amniotic fluid  Provides shock-absorbing protection for the embryo. • Chorion  Grows around the embryo after 1 month.
