Julie Gilbert UNIV 101 11-2-07 Journal #3 While reading the articles in preparation of the MICA presentation, I especially understood and related to Daniel Kobrin’s article. I myself am a white Jew, and in general, most of my friends are other white Jewish people. This is not to say that I am opposed to having friends of other races or religions. However, there is something to be said for feeling a sense of comfort amongst people of your own culture. I find that have a lot in common with my friends, most of who happen to be like me. I don’t think this makes me a bad person, because I am friends with who I feel comfortable around. I have not closed my doors to the possibility of having relationships with people of other backgrounds. I don’t think diversity should be forced. My willingness to be open and accepting to of other races and religions is my idea of diversity. Diversity doesn’t necessarily mean having tons of friends who are different from me just to say I have them. It means keeping an open mind and not creating prejudices against people I don’t
