Anthrbio 161 Study Questions 4 1. What are the inherent problems of using only one or a few criteria to classify human populations? There are many problems with using only a few criteria, humans all derive from one ancestral group and there is more genetic diversity within a population. 2. Race has often been correlated with differences in intelligence and biological capabilities. Explain why IQ and other standardized tests are not good measures of the comparative intelligence of different populations. IQ only measures one type of intelligence and there are many different types that can’t be measured with IQ scores. There is no evidence that shows IQ as genetically determined. IQ is a sum of cultural experiences and not raw intelligence. 3. What biological event marks the end of childhood in both boys and girls? What biological event marks the onset of reproductive maturity in females? The eruption of the first molar marks the end of childhood. A woman’s first menarche or first period marks the onset of reproductive capacity. 4.
