Catherine Cummings EDSE 3830 Lesson Plan Date: December 7, 2010 Grades: 10-12 Length: 50 Minutes Rational of Theory: Two theories are present in this lesson plan. They are sociocultural theory and constructivism. The assessment will use constructivism, as will the discussion and break down of the pictures of the sleeping environments. Finally, I will be combating the cultural beliefs about an infant’s sleeping environment when I present the SIDS information. Thus, I will have to change their ideas they have learned, which is the sociocultural theory, and I will have to present the information as a “knowledgeable member of society.” Hopefully, through this lesson, the students will change their views on a safe sleeping environment and pass it on to other members of their community. Objectives: Explain changes that occur during the first days of parenthood Describe the appearance and abilities of a newborn Identify adjustments families with newborns may need to make Identify a SIDS risk-free sleeping environment
