2 TAKS Objective 1: The student will demonstrate an understanding of issues and events in U.S. history. TEKS Knowledge & Skills Statement / TAKS-Tested Student Expectation Essence of TEKS Knowledge & Skills Statement / TAKS-Tested Student Expectation (8.1) History. The student understands traditional historical points of reference in U.S. history through 1877. The student is expected to (C) explain the significance of the following dates: [1607,] 1776, 1787, [1803,] and 1861–1865. Understands important dates and time periods in U.S. history through 1877. Level 3 Prerequisite skill: use vocabulary related to chronology, including ancient and modern times and past, present, and future times The student will be presented with information about an event from modern times and a comparable historical event that occurred before 1877—for example, a war, an election, or the passage of a law. The student will determine three facts about each event. The student will generate a Venn diagram using the facts. The student will determine the labels for the Venn diagram using appropriate chronological vocabulary. Predetermined Criteria 1. The student will determine three facts about each event. 2. 3 Level 2 Prerequisite skill: create a calendar or timeline The student will assist in creating a timeline of his or her life. The student will be presented with an event that happened before 1877. The student will identify that the historical event occurred in the past. The student will identify where to place the event in relation to his or her birth. Predetermined Criteria 1. The student will assist in creating a timeline of his or her life. 2. The student will identify that the historical event occurred in the past. 3.
