Running Head: MILESTONE 1Introduction“Research in Motion: Sincerely, a RIM Employee” case study presents an open letter from an employee to the heads of the company RIM. Prior to being introduced as a case study the letter was published online by Boy Genius Report. The employee’s presentation within the letter of the various communication issues, within multiple departments, also address the contributing factors. Effective communication in the workplace is central to any and all business goals. It is important for effective communication to start at the top of the company and work its way down through lower levels of management and employees and end with the customers. The letter from the employee focuses on the main issues within multiple departments that require being addressed by the senior management such as; focusing on the end user experience; the need for recruiting senior software leaders, allowing for decision-making within departments that will enable creativity, devoting more time to finding and investing more in software developers, moreefficient marketing campaigns, hold employees more accountable, focus on establishing a safe, non-retaliation policy to allow employees to express their opinions, and a safe working environment. To ensure that RIM continues to operate soundly both internally and externally, thesenior management must take into consideration the issues the employee has brought forward. The focus of the letter is directed towards fixing the internal issues within the company, but these extend externally to the consumers and investors. For any of the issues mentioned by the employee it is essential that the senior management and the employees communicate effectively through the exchange of information and understanding the emotion and intentions behind the information. Through the exchange of communication, the message being conveyed must be clear and to the point so that the listener receives it and understands it.
Running Head: MILESTONE 1Within the issues the RIM employee presents as needing attention, internally the senior management must focus on realizing that by forgetting that the employees sustain the internal dynamics of the company, the company will not function smoothly, and goals will not be reachedor successful. Focusing on external issues, senior management must focus on marketing productsto consumer specs and not to what they think is right. Internally the company’s senior management needs to focus on its employees and how to raise the employee morale, employee dedication in each department, requesting and listening to employee feedback, and allowing employees to have a voice in innovation. The company needs to acknowledge their workforce. By providing and delivering clear lines of communication, a sense of renewed trust will build up among the employees.
