Discussion 3 Why do you think they were included as examples of exemplary women? What is the lesson to be learned?Liu Xiang placed these biographies in the category of “Principled and Righteous.” Why do you think he considered them to be principled and righteous?Do these biographies illustrate Confucian values? How so?I think that the righteous Nurse of Duke Xiao of Lu, Huai Ying consort of Yu ofJin, and consort Zhao of Dai were included as examples of exemplary women because of the willingness to do what is right no matter the cost, even if it affected them personally. The Nurse of Duke Xiao of Lu sacrifice her only son’s life for the Prince. When she heard that Boyu who had already killed the king was planning to kill the prince, she dressed her own son in the prince clothing, so Boyu would kill her son instead of the prince. Her duty was to protect and care for the prince and she did that no matter, it cost her, so because of this, they described her as some who is reliable.
