Unformatted text preview: ASE 3622K= Assignment No 12 1) 2) 3) A blunt-nosed model is installed in the driven section of a shock tube [as sketched in (i)]. The driven gas, which is air, is initially at a temperature and pressure of 300°K and 0.1 atmospheres respectively. After the diaphragm breaks, an incident shock wave propagates into the driven section. The shock has a pressure ratio P2/P1 = 40.4. What is the pressure and temperature at the model nose shortly after the shock sweeps past the model. [This is sketched in (ii)... (L) Thursday, April 19, 2007 fiaruswwt ./ Note: we will assume that there is no interaction between the incident shock wave and the bow shock which forms around the model. A normal shock with a pressure ratio P2/P1 = 262.3 propagates along a shock tube. The air in the driven section (i.e. ahead of the wave) has P1 = 103 Nm'2 and T1 = 300“K. After a few milliseconds the shock strikes the endwall and is reflected. What is a) the reflected shock wave velocity relative to the tube and b) the pressure and temperature behind the reflected wave. A piston in a tube is suddenly accelerated to a speed of 50 m/s which causes a normal shock to form. The shock propagates into air which is at rest (fig. 1). A short while later the piston is again suddenly accelerated from 50 to 100 m/s causing a second shock to form and move down the tube (fig. 2). Given that the initial air temperature is 300K, calculate the speeds of the two shock waves.
