Special Test: Squeeze Test Pt: lying supine on table or short-sitting on table ATC: stand to injured side of pt, one hand over proximal tib-fib and one hand over distal tib-fib for stabilization Exam: starting distal to injury, apply compression to tib-fib joint like you are squeezing a stress ball. Move closer to injury site if no pn Positive test: pn w/ compression Indicates: possible fx (pn along fibular shaft) or syndesmosis sprain (pn at distal tib-fib) **Refer for x-ray if pn w/ WB & pn w/ active

Special Test: Kleiger’s Test (External Rotation Test) Pt: supine or short-sitting on table ATC: in front of pt or to injured side, one hand needs to be over proximal tib-fib to stabilize lower leg & other hand needs to be gripping around medial calcaneus to be able to manipulate it Exam: evert pt’s foot & then maximally dorsiflex the foot Positive Test: pn over distal to mid tib-fib jt or pn over medial aspect of ankle Indicates: syndesmosis sprain (anterolateral pn) or deltoid ligament (medial pn)
