Forms of business organization There are 4 forms of business organization: sole proprietorships, corporations, limited liability companies (LLCs), and limited liability partnerships (LLPs). Proprietorship - unincorporated business owned by 1 person 3 advantages: easily and inexpensively formed, subject to few regulations, subject to lower income tax than corporations 3 disadvantages: unlimited personal liability, life of the business is limited to life of creator, difficulty obtaining large sums of capital (why proprietorships are used for small businesses) Partnership - unincorporated business owned by 2 or more people
