IE 121 – Spring 2011 Instructor: Eugene Perevalov Meeting times: MWF 9:10-10:00. General information: IE121 is an introductory course in Statistics primarily for engineering students. The term Statistics deals with the collection, analysis, and presentation of data. The ability to use data correctly is important to every engineer. In fact, this course is one of a subset that you will have a 100chance of using. In this course, we will cover estimation, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, regression, analysis of variance, and quality control. Course objectives: Upon completion of this course, students should be: know the basic concepts and methods in statistics; know various estimation techniques and their respective strengths and weaknesses be able to formulate analytical models to perform both parametric and non-parametric hy- pothesis tests; be able to understand and analyze statistics in polling and yield management applications;
