Group dynamics = the social science field focusing on the nature of the groups- the factors governing their formation and development, the elements of their structure, and their interrelationships with individuals, other groups, and organizations. b. Basic nature i. What is a group? 1. A group of 2 or more interacting individuals with a stable pattern of relationships between them, who share common goals, and who perceive themselves as being a group. ii. Social interaction = the members of the group must have some influence on one another. The interaction can be either verbal or nonverbal, but members have to have an impact on one another. iii. Stability = although groups can change, there must be some stable relationship that keeps group member together and functioning as a unit. iv.
