INTRO Cause: malicious ex-employee exposes everyone’s salaries, revealing discrepancies in the compensatory system, and igniting outrage from company workers. Public salary system Nowadays it is harder to keep salary confidentiality with modern technology and information accessibility - Positive= easier to avoid salary discrepancies. Allows for a fairer compensatory system based on actual performance. Employees will be able to reach a better understanding of the business, like why some employees get paid more… Also allows for more trust among employees and managers with more shared information. - Negative= raises privacy issues rivals will know how much to offer to acquire the desirable employees. Ideas: - External market value vs. internal equality (younger employees with “hot skills” paid more than older, loyal, continuous workers within the same department) - Hank and Harriet are worried about public display of salary listings, because they know their companies compensatory system is not entirely performance based.
