Overview Erasmus Darwin- grandfather of Charles Darwin who was a naturalist and poet that wrote about evolution; wrote Zoonomia?; competition for resources, importance of environment Darwin and Wallace came up with ancient time frame, gradual process Charles Darwin- born 1809-1882 to upper-class English family that was in intellectual circle of London; went to Medical school in Edinborough and discovered evolutionary theory of Lamarck, before dropping out to go to Cambridge for religion; met botanist John Henslow which made him interested in natural science; after graduating, went on an expedition with HMS Beagle to record geology, wildlife, and nature on trip to South America; The following influenced him greatly: observed much flora and fauna, earthquake in Chile which made him wonder about the makeup of the earth and how it was formed, Argentina- collected fossil bones of extinct animal forms, different evolutions of animals Studied 13 dif. finches across Galapagos Islands all with dif. Sizes
