The sequence of bases in DNA provide the code for a sequence of amino acids in a protein 2. Who is credited with discovering the structure of DNA? Watson and Crick 3. What are the three components of a nucleotide? Phosphate, sugar, and a base 4. What are the four bases that are found in DNA? And how do they pair up? Adenine with thymine Cytosine with guanine 5. What is chargaff's rule? The number of A always equals the number of T bases and the number of C always equals the number of G **implies that A always pairs with T and C with G 6. What is the shape of DNA called? Double helix 7. Is the width of DNA uniform or variable? Why? It is uniform—because the bases pair up in such a way that the keeps the distances between each strand constant (A and G are twice as wide as C and T so that when an and T pair and C and G pair the width is uniform—see picture below on number 7) 8. Draw a pair of parallel lines and antiparallel lines.
