Burns 1 Amelia Burns English 2000 Pappas BNW Outline Working Outline I. Intro A. Context: Aldous Huxley’s science fiction novel, Brave New World , uses a futuristic utopian society’s values to foil our world’s way of life. Huxley’s 1932 satirical novel paints a picture of an ideal world of the future filled with genetically engineered humans dictated by a select few who prize stability, conformity, and pharmaceuticals. B. Thesis: Our present society and Huxley’s post-modern overly controlled world’s concepts of individuality, advanced science and technology, and government are very similar. II. Body A. Concepts of Individuality Status Quo o World State’s Solidarity Service when Bernard feels the need to fit in and participate in ceremony o BNW “Feeling that it was time for him…” (84) o College attendance rates increase yearly because of it being the “thing to do”—status quo Conformity o Bernard Marx looks different than the other Alpha Pluses o BNW “…thought he was a Gamma…” (46) o Today girls must fit a certain size o Rates of anorexia, bulimia, and other body issues on the rise
