Loryn Dion and Angela Denomme Oct. 7, 2010 AnSci 360 Assignment 1 The PEW Commission is an organization that focuses its attention on the environmental, public health, and animal welfare issues in regards to industrial farming in America. The people that are involved in the PEW Commission come from a variety of fields of study, including veterinary medicine, public health, business, government, animal welfare, and a few others. The PEW Commission’s main goal is to try to educate people about the harmful effects of industrial farming and make known what can be done to make the large farming industries less harmful when it comes to issues such as animal welfare, the environment, and the general public health. By encouraging industrial farms to carry out less harmful practices, the PEW Commission hopes to help each community one farm at a time. The PEW Commission wrote this report to offer solutions to the multiple issues involved with industrial farming and getting food from the farm to the stores. Since this organization is made up of people from different groups that focus on different aspects of industrial farming, several issues are addressed in regards to what should be done at these farms and what practices should be left out. Take the use of antimicrobials, for example. Many farmers use antimicrobials
