Course Syllabus MBA 814: Business Research and Quantitative Methods Spring 2010 Instructor: Dr. Kathleen Arano Office Room Number: McCartney 203C Phone Number: 785-628-4107 E-mail: karano@fhsu.edu Office Hours: 9:30-10:20am MWF 10am-12noon TTH Other times by appointment Textbook You have 2 options to choose from: (1) The custom book “Business Research and Quantitative Methods”, Cengage Learning (2009); this book combines chapters from Business Research Methods 8 th ed by Zikmund, et. al. and Concise Managerial Statistics by Kvanli, et. al. ( ISBN: 1111067449 ) (2) Option (1) + SPSS student version ( ISBN: 1111192545 ) The course bundles are only available through the campus bookstore since they are custom made to our course. Course Description This course is designed to develop an in-depth knowledge of the methodology appropriate for conducting research in business. The course includes a review of the scientific method and its application to the business research process, data preparation, analysis and presentation of the research output (written and oral) as a tool for making accurate, informed decisions. Application of quantitative techniques to business decision- making (hypothesis testing, regression, model building) with extensive use of an application/statistical software will be emphasized. Course Objectives 1. To provide students with an understanding of the overall research process. 2. To provide students with an understanding of the methods of collecting primary and secondary data for business research. 3. To provide students with the knowledge and skills to conduct data driven business research and present results in written and oral formats. 4. To help students develop skills in utilizing quantitative methods to manage information and to solve business problems.
