(2) In Michelangelo’s works shown in the British Museum website, his works are so lush and soft, they almost appear to be oil portraits, although they are done using pen, brown ink, red chalk, and lead (pencil). The Sistine Chapel ceiling was done by Michelangelo with very little experience using the fresco technique, so when he was done with it, he viewed it’s completion as a personal achievement. The interesting thing to me is that these drawings are preliminary sketches and portraits that would eventually end up on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. I had no idea that this is how it was done. With such a large area to work with he had to draw these sketches and then had to visually and strategically place them on the ceiling.

Unformatted text preview: Leonardo DaVinci and Michelangelo are two of the prolifically skilled artists in all of history in terms of painting, sculpting, and architecture. While both artists express some of the absolute best skill in their works, their techniques and perceptions show distinguishable differences. Both of these artists knew exactly how to use their drawings to extract emotion from viewers through visual thinking. They were able to generate the kind expression in their drawings that clearly showed emotion in its subjects. The design and composition of their respective works seemed to capture what they may have perceived through their own feelings and emotions, thus transferring into their work....
