Business Sense 2 Effective operations and management materials (OMM) can enhance a company’s efficiency, value, innovation, and awareness of clients. “Materials management is the set of activities that control the flow of resources into and out of the operating system” (Axia, 2007, page 373); an operating system is “the value-creation activities that convert a company’s inputs into finished goods and services” (Axia, 2007, page 373). There are three phases associated with value creation. The first phase, known as input, is the value a business generates for its clients and is established by the business’ materials management knowledge. The second phase, operations, is the controlling and managing of goods and services a business provides. The third phase, output, is the final creation of the goods and services provided by the business Axia, 2007, pages 373,374). During this paper I will explore Albertsons, Winco, and Costco grocery stores’ operations and material management methods and explain the advantages associated with each business.
