(1) Long before any white man set foot on our soil, we lived and thrived off of this land. The first of us arrived here on this land 20,000 to 30,000 years ago, during the time of the last ice age (Native Americans, 2009). There were millions of us at that time. We all belonged to one of many tribes that were spread all across this land. Tribes lived nearly everywhere one could travel by horse or foot. A few of the places we lived are Virginia, Michigan, New York, Alabama, Kentucky, and Ohio. There were even tribes further north in Canada. The Europeans first set foot on our land in the 16 th century (Native Americans, 2009). Never before had any of us seen such pale faces. Not only did they look different than us, but they wore different materials than our people. They came here on giant ships and carried weapons several different sorts. Their weapons looked strange to us but they also looked very threatening
